1) Internet Marketing - What Works & What Doesn't - Part A

It is so easy to spend hundreds of dollars marketing your business on the internet, only to find at the end of it all you haven't made any money...not even a single cent. This can leave you wondering if it was such a good idea to choose an online business. How on earth do all the people turning over hundreds of thousands a year on the internet do it?
 
Quite simply, they haven't spent a fortune on marketing their site, with many of them starting their internet empires for a mere few hundred dollars, they have just spent their money in the RIGHT PLACE. There is still hope for your website as long as you know which methods are a waste of money, and which methods will make you money.
 
A) Buying Visitors
These traffic websites will be covered in glowing reports of how much business you can gain through purchasing visitors from their site. The reality is, for 99.99% of internet businesses, it doesn't work! Most of the supposed visitors just aren't interested in what you are selling, and as your website has just been flashed up before them while they are trying to do something else, they will more than likely close your page in disgust without even reading it.
 
B) Traffic Exchange
At least this option isn't likely to send you broke...but once again it isn't very successful either! You obtain credits by viewing other people's sites in the exchange program, for each credit you earn (or buy) you are given a certain number of visitors to your site. When the visitors leave someone elses site, your site pops up in front of them. Why doesn't it work? Most of the 'visitors' you receive to your site are actually members of the program, the only reason they are bothering to look at your site, is to earn credits so that they get more people visiting their site. They aren't the tiniest bit interested in what you are trying to sell.
 
C) Bulk Email
This option has similar problems to the traffic exchange programs. The majority of people on the list of millions that you can mail to are members of the program too. They have only joined to promote their product, so aren't going to take the time to read your offer - it will be sent straight to the trash. Bulk email can work if you can send your email to more targeted people, for which there are companies out there where you can buy good quality lists. The problem is, that this is rather expensive, and will still probably result in your email being sent to the trash more often than not.
 
D) Banners & PopUps
Banners are ads, linking to your site, that you place on others people's sites - similar to display ads in magazines. The drawback to them, is they can be rather expensive, some people find them annoying and so won't click on them, & you are paying a set fee, regardless of how much traffic you receive. They may still be of some assistance, but they are rapidly going out of fashion as they aren't very effective. PopUps are also starting to lose their popularity (believe it or not), as they too are becoming less & less effective. Think about it, how often do you actually read what a popup says - very rarely I'd say, most people close them before they have even loaded. People hate them! Banners & PopUps may be worth trialing once you have your website up & running and receiving a good amount of traffic, but I wouldn't recommend them as the first option.
